International Development

Partnerships in excellence, high-level international students:

Together with its network of prestigious partners, Centrale Paris is actively developing in Asia, in Europe, in North and South America and is recruiting the best international students.

  • The “4+4” programme between the Ecoles Centrales and four Chinese universities (Tsinghua University, Shanghai JiaoTong University, Xi’An JiaoTong University and SouthWest JiaoTong University) attracts a dozen double-degree Chinese students to the School every year.
  • The “5+6” programme between the Ecoles Centrales and 6 Brazilian universities (Escola Politecnica da Universidade de Sao Paulo, Pontificia Univerdidade Catolica do Rio de Janeiro, Universidade Estadual do Campinas, Universidade Federal do Ceara, Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and Universidade do Rio Grande do Sul)
  • The Ecole Centrale Paris is a founder member of the TIME (Top Industrial Managers for Europe) network of excellence. TIME is Europe’s leading network for the training of bi-cultural, bilingual engineers.
  • The Ecole Centrale Paris is diversifying its recruitment and strengthening its partnerships with the leading European institutions as coordinator for two Erasmus Mundus programmes, TANDEM with China and BEAM with Japan and Korea.
    • The TANDEM Alliance brings closer Europe and China.
    • EM-BEAM aims to bring several countries of Europe (Belgium, France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom) and Asia (Japan, Korea) closer together in the fields of higher education and research.

Internationally-oriented courses:

To prepare its students for international careers, and trains them to be leaders in the multicultural world of business, the Ecole Centrale Paris has decided to mandate a six months’ abroad experience. Companies are looking for young graduates to be operating in an international setting right out of the school.
Today, to get his/her engineering degree, a Centrale Paris’ student will have to spend either:
- Six-months abroad in an academic or research exchange, or as an internship in a company.
- a double degree at a partner university that allows students to obtain simultaneously the Centrale Paris’ degree and that of the host university.
- a gap year between the second and the third year of studies; it may include a six-months abroad experience.

With 121 universities in 36 countries where exchanges are possible, our students can benefit from a wide variety of opportunities:

Centrale Paris offers two of them the opportunity of a one-year exchange with Cambridge University. For a year, the Ecole Centrale Paris students follow a third year of the Cambridge Master of Engineering and the Cambridge students the second year at Centrale Paris. Each student must return to their home university to complete the last year of their studies.

In the United States, the School has formed partnerships based on the reciprocity of six-month or one-year exchanges with 4 world-famous universities: Columbia, Cornell, Penn State and Princeton. For over 20 years, we have also been sending our best double degree students annually to the most prestigious American universities: MIT, Stanford, Harvard, Berkeley, Caltech…

India and China are strategic Asian countries for the Ecole Centrale Paris. Since 2007, with IIT Kanpur and IISc Bangalore, and since 2009 with IIT Delhi, students, teachers and researchers from the two countries have been contributing actively to the development of exchanges.

Cooperating with companies for their international development:

The Ecole Centrale Paris has developed a number of activities to meet the needs and expectations of major international companies:

- An offer for international advanced education is being implemented with our partners, particularly in Asia.

- Since 2009, the Ecoles Centrales organise an annual “Job Fair” at Shanghai in China. The “Centrale Alumni Career Forum” attracts about fifteen international companies and over 150 Chinese and French graduates from the Ecoles Centrales. This event proves that: “the Ecoles Centrales group selects, trains and places young double degree graduates with international profiles in companies”, Christopher Cripps, Dean of International Relations.

Off-site training programmes:

In China, the Ecole Centrale Beijing, the leading engineering school situated overseas, will see its first Class pass out in 2011. The students have been trained over 6 years and will be completely bi-cultural, pluri-disciplinary and trilingual. There are now nearly 600 students studying on this campus. At the start of 2010, 177 new students joined this programme.
As proof of the importance that France attaches to this young institution, the Ecole Centrale Beijing was honoured by visits between December 2009 and July 2010 from the Prime Minister François Fillon, the past Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin, the Minister for National Education Luc Châtel and the Minister for Higher Education and Research, Valérie Pécresse.
